The informal “ wildlife hospital” was set up in 2022 in response to the urgent need for wildlife veterinary treatment, but specifically for a koala hospital in the region. Despite limited facilities and staff, we were able to provide almost 24/7/365 emergency veterinary care for koalas. However, over the past 18 months, we have strengthened our limited funds and facilities and formally incorporated to ensure veterinary care and rehabilitation of wildlife referrals in emergency situations for some specific special needs species such as Koalas, echidnas and wedge-tailed eagles.
Our small but mighty team at Ballarat Wildlife Hospital is deeply passionate about wildlife welfare. With a local focus on serving the Ballarat and surrounding regions, we work tirelessly to provide specialised veterinary care and support for native wildlife in need. From species-specific medicine and surgery to hospital facilities catering to a wide range of species, discover how we're dedicated to safeguarding Australia's precious fauna.
We acknowledge the Wadawurrung and the Dja Dja Wurrung People as the Traditional Custodians of the land we live, work and study on, and recognise their ancient and ongoing connection with the land and waterways. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging and extend this to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.
